what i: famolares, and how to shrink a dress

what i:

What am I pointing at? Why, that is a vintage Famolare boot which I bought at a shop in Brattleboro, VT while visiting my friends Raphe and Saint over TEN years ago! It cost me $12.50. The other one also cost me $12.50. I've had them restored many times, and it looks like they're due for some maintenance. To be honest, I hate to leave them with my cobbler. I'm always worried some vintage shoe obsessed woman is going to grab them off the shelf when Carlos isn't looking.

What am I wearing? A transfixingly-patterned size 16 cotton housedress, found immediately post-partum at a Salvation Army. I turned it into a wrap dress simply by cutting the skirt portion right up the front into the bottom of the button panel at the torso. I took some of the original buttons and made new button holes at the waist to secure the dress snugly around me, and wrapped the waist with a scarf. Voilá! Granted the arms are a little huge, but this dress is awesome for days when I want to look like I tried, but want to feel like I'm wearing a bathrobe. Which I did this day, sick with a fever and sweating like crazy.

What am I doing? Driving Stella crazy with embarrassment as we take these photos, the poor dear.
