showtime: linus and lucy, elbo room, december 13, 2011

I'm still riding my high from last night's wonderful holiday burlesque show with Bombshell Betty and her Burlesqueteers. I loved performing with her band, Fromagique. The combination of eating a few handfuls of chocolate covered espresso beans and doing two out of my three acts within fifteen minutes of each other made me a bit of a wreck during the first set. But it all came out great. I did exactly what I set out to do, which you can read about here

All of the acts were so amazing. There were a few that were so funny I just couldn't stop smiling. The holiday show is the best! I'm so lucky to have been part of it.

I'm going to let these video stills tell the rest of the story. It's safe for work, I left out the "good" stuff! If you're dying to see the whole act, you can always Google me, if you happen to have caught my stage name somewhere around these parts. ;)

Linus and Lucy

I had to include this super washed-out shot to show you my sparkly little Charlie Brown Christmas tree, on the left there. I wrapped my blue skirt around it like Linus' blanket after I took it off!

History Repeating

This is a great group act choreography by Betty that we do as the Showgirl Chorus. We are all dressed in different period clothing. I'm from the 50's, in a rhinestoned linen sleeveless top and scarf in my hair. This choreography has a lot of torque!

Doesn't that look fun?! It really was! When is the last time you had a chance to walk up and down a stage like a supermodel? We were wearing giant clock pasties underneath, by the way, for the end of the song that goes "...ticktickticktickticktickticktickticktick..."!

Finally, we did our Showgirl Chorus Marilyn Monroe number from the October art history themed show, the one where we punctuate the music with Marilyn Monroe-inspired poses. The shots I have from that show are slightly better than the stills from last night, so I'll just leave you with one.

Work Song

What can I say that I haven't said ad nauseum about Bombshell Betty and burlesque? It has changed my life. My entire adult life there has been a little voice in my head telling me how beautiful I would be if I would just lose weight. That voice is gone to the point that I need to consciously remind myself that it would still be nice to lose weight, for the clothes and all, because it's not AS big of an issue for me right now. You can be any shape, any size. In burlesque, the girl onstage is always the most beautiful girl in the room. To just have those fleeting moments, recorded and documented for me to refer back to, is really all I need. For now, anyway.....

Tania, I am surprised you didn't catch that it was burlesque, I feel like I talk about it a lot here! Thank you, I did have a blast!

Thanks, Sonya! I pick only the most flattering shots to post of course. I didn't look that fabulous the whole time. :) But I did have a great time!

  6. Thank you, S. Stauss. I actually grabbed that idea from a wonderful writer and dancing colleague of mine, Jennie Rose (also known as Cooki Crumbles onstage), from this piece she wrote about her burlesque journey:

Am loving your blog, and need to find time to read the pieces more in depth. So many great things to read from BlogHer that I can't keep up!
