siete ideas for cinco de mayo

For some reason, I've got a lot of ideas for Cinco de Mayo celebrations! Here are a few of them I'd like to share with you. Feliz Cinco de Mayo!

I am sharing a DIY for making Mexican oilcloth bunting at my friend Heather's beautiful Poppy Haus this morning. This is a quick and totally festive way to brighten up your Cinco de Mayo party. Head on over to Poppy Haus for my tutorial, and check out her mini churros and chocolate recipe and her piñata crackers for even more Cinco de Mayo fun!

This donkey piñata cake was a labor of love for a Mexican-themed birthday party we threw for Stella a few years ago, but it was worth it. Go crazy with the jelly beans!

If you didn't see them at the beginning of the week, how about some adorable sombrero cakes? I love these!

Speaking of donut pans, one of the most popular donut pan ideas I've done yet were my sweet tamale donuts. If you are hosting a breakfast or brunch on Cinco de Mayo, I urge you to try these. They are amazing.

A wonderful main course for a crowd is delicious coctel de camerones (Mexican shrimp cocktail). You can prepare the components separately ahead of time and combine before serving.

Paper flowers, of course. Enough said.

And last, but not least, a good old tiny egg piñata, in super festive colors, or in the colors of the Mexican flag like I did last year. Feliz Cinco de Mayo!
